Rovers and Legends secure victories in Super League

Blue Rovers beat Zim Stars 3–1, while Newcastle Legends defeated Osizweni 4–2 in the RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League. Read more here:

The Newcastle Social Soccer League kicked off the RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League this past weekend.

In what was a spirited clash, Zim Stars took on newcomers Blue Rovers.

Rovers showed early intent, but it was Zim Stars who struck first, capitalising on a misplaced back pass to the goalkeeper to take the lead.

In the second half, Rovers came out stronger and equalised. With Zim Stars losing composure and their defence tiring, Rovers seized control and added two more goals to secure a 3–1 victory.

Football fans at the Osizweni Stadium were treated to an entertaining encounter when Osizweni took on the Newcastle Legends.

Despite struggling with flu-hit absences, the Legends managed to field a side and struck first to open the scoring. But the hosts were not to be outdone.

On the stroke of half-time, Osizweni found the equaliser, sending the teams into the break level.

The second half saw Legends regain the lead, which prompted Osizweni to press for another; however, solid defending from Rajesh Bellama, Shani Balraj, and Suleman Basha kept the hosts at bay.

Akesh Dawlall extended Legends’ lead before Osizweni pulled one back with a long-range strike. Patrick Vere sealed the win for Legends with a fourth goal, as they ran out 4–2 victors.

Looking ahead, Newcastle Legends Football Club will host a four-way tournament against Merewenth FC, Team KZN, and Vryheid FC at Paradise Stadium on September 6.
