Bowling teams celebrate success at Dundee tournament

The 72nd annual Friedman/Douthwaite/Bunger Bowling Tournament, hosted by Dundee Bowling Club last weekend, was once again a great success, with a record 38 teams from across KwaZulu-Natal and Pretoria in attendance.

Despite inclement weather, play continued uninterrupted, allowing all five games to be completed.

The Results were as follows:

Caleb Janse van Rensburg and his team from Maritzburg West BC (44 + 57) emerged as worthy winners, followed by Dundee’s Des Johnston and team (40 + 55) in second place, and Gavin Conlon’s Bluff BC team (37 + 24) finishing third.

In the closely contested Plate Event, first place went to Werner Roeloefse’s PMB Collegians team (18 + 29), with Russell Funnell’s Westville BC team (18 + 22) securing second place, and John and Trevor Douthwaite, Brandon Delport and Chris White (Newcastle BC, 18 + 15) placing third.

Lamontville Bowling Club from Durban were welcome new entrants, fielding two teams who made the journey to participate.

Live music on Friday and Saturday evening ensured bowlers were well entertained off the greens, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The KZNCB Preliminary Masters Tournament will be hosted by Newcastle Bowling Club this weekend, with the Veterans Masters being played at Richards Bay BC.

Newcastle Bowling Club’s Brandon Delport, Bennie van Vuuren and Nicola Redelinghuys have been selected to play in the Preliminary Masters, while Peet du Bruyn, James Dlamini, Trevor Douthwaite, Edith Pretorius and Nancy Steyn have been selected to compete in the Veterans Masters event.
