From quiet to ‘rocking’ on the greens
They thought it was an “old man’s” game until they got onto the green and found it was more than just rolling a bowl down the green

Happy birthday to Joe Coetzee, John Peach and Rodney van Deventer this month – may you have a happy and healthy year ahead!
From having a quiet time, the club went into ‘rock’ mode with a fantastic Hyper Packaging tournament. Congratulations to the ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ – Lorraine Kirsten, Jill Holding and Desiree Maartens – on winning this super tournament. They were closely followed by the Harrismith team of Nico Emmenis, Ida Oosthuizen and Hannelie du Preez, just pipping Barbara Baleri, Oscar Baleri and Donovan Fischer into third place. Thank you to Oscar and Barbara Baleri for the fabulous sponsorship of this tournament which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part. Not forgetting the greens staff assisting Terry Crane and all the ‘helping hands’ assisting Derek in the bar, and Kerry and Dillon and their assistants preparing the food. Well done to all!
Rodney is looking for some more entries for the Business League starting on Wednesday, October 9. You can contact him on 083-231-3712. This league is aimed at business team-building and this was proved by the Sanlam personnel who said they thought it was an “old man’s” game until they got onto the green and found it was more than just rolling a bowl down the green. Take this opportunity to instil real team spirit into your staff, who will be able to really communicate with each other in a relaxed atmosphere where they can have lots of fun.
This weekend sees the ‘big trek’ to Richards Bay where the district teams will compete for the prestigious President’s Cup.
This is crunch-time for the selection of the final teams who will represent the district at the National Bowls SA Inter-Districts Championships. Here’s wishing all the Midlands bowlers the best of luck and a safe journey there and back. There will be tabs-in on Saturday for those who are here, so just come and enjoy yourselves. “Live, love and laugh a lot with bowls”.
