Officers do well in combat rifle championships
Between them, they won 20 medals in the individual and team matches, with targets ranging between 100m and 400m
Local police officers brought back medals from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and South African Combat Rifle Association (SACRA) Championships.
Sergeant Marc Potas of the Ladysmith K-9 Unit, Detective Constable Dave Warmenhoven from Ladysmith, Student Constable Pieter Joubert from the Ladysmith Visible Policing Unit and Detective Constable Dawie Delport from Bergville competed in the championships, which were held at the General De Wet Shooting Range in Bloemfontein from September 21 to 28.
Between them, they won 20 medals in the individual and team matches, with targets ranging between 100m and 400m. About 450 competitors took aim and did their best to hit bull’s eye. Det/Const Dawie Delport was crowned development champion for achieving the best score in the starters division, and Student Const Pieter Joubert received his junior national colours for combat rifle shooting. Sgt Marc Potas won two medals in the KZN team shoot and Det/Const Dave Warmenhoven was placed in the top 100 out of 280 national shooters. Det/Const Dave Warmenhoven and Det/Const Dawie Delport represented the KZN ‘B’ team in inter-provincial matches. The team spirit was good and the local officers did very well. The wind made for challenging conditions, with wind speeds reaching 80km an hour. The officers would like to thank all those who made the event possible, as well as their supporters. They are looking forward to next year’s event and hope to bring home more medals.
