Under 13 girls crowned champs

The U/13 girls from Isiqophamithi Primary School were crowned KwaZulu-Natal Top School Basketball Champs after beating the school from Ilembe District 12-8

The Othukela Basketball Association took part in the Provincial Top School Championship which was held at Holy Park in Durban from October 11 to 13.

They had four school teams (U/18 boys – Intandoyesizwe High, U/18 girls – Ezakheni High, U/13 boys and girls – Isiqophamithi Primary).

The championship was of a high standard and at the end of the tournament, the U/13 girls from Isiqophamithi Primary School were crowned as KwaZulu-Natal Top School Basketball Champs after beating the school from Ilembe District 12-8. They are now going to represent our province at the National Top Schools Championship which will be hosted by Free State province (Bloemfontein) from December 10 to 15.

The team was coached by Ms Zanefa Shabalala (who is also the district team captain for the U/20 female Othukela Basketball team), assisted by Mr SA Buthelezi (educator), and managed by Ms TN Shazi (educator) and Thandeka Ngcobo (team captain).

They would like to thank the Uthukela Department of Sport & Recreation for their continued support in sporting culture; the Uthukela Department of Education for promoting sport in schools; the Uthukela Sports Confederation; Uthukela Coaches Commission; the staff of Isiqophamithi Primary School, Ezakheni High School, and Intandoyesizwe High School; players; parents; eMnambithi Youth Centre; the office of Mr Lucky Maphisa; and the members of Othukela Basketball for ensuring that the games ran smoothly.
