Bowlers top tables at Friedman Cup
Two Newcastle woman formed part of the winning team.
Dundee Bowling Club hosted another successful Friedman Cup last weekend. Twenty teams competed in the men’s’ section with 10 female teams vying for top honours.
After five rounds played on a winner-plays-winner system, first prize was won by the composite team (and last year’s winners), Phillip Scheepers and Hogart Gevers (Vryheid), Miskiet Ferreira (Emangeni) and Dion Leiaty (Richards Bay) on 44 + 40. Runners up were Colin McDougal and his Maritzburg West team (36 + 31).
In third spot was the team of Carel Arndt, Doug Slabbert, Rudi Haaschke & TV Wessels (Dundee) on 34 + 8, while fourth went to Newcastle’s Billy Nicholas, Henk Zaal, Alex Zaal and Andy Robinson (31 – 1).
A composite team – Nan Roos (Dundee), Alice Howe, Ann Wood (Newcastle) and Lyn Dippenaar (Durban), won the ladies title. Rita Meyer’s Empangeni team won second place, and third place went to Gill Stokes’s Lynwood team, with the Plate trophy going to Kevin Williams and his Maritzburg foursome.
A good weekend was had by all – congratulations to Dundee Bowling Club for another successful Friedman Cup.
