Golfers school at college golf day
The Majuba FET College golf day attracted a large field of avid and casual sportspeople.
Business and sport integrated casually at the Majuba FET College golf day on Saturday.
An overbearing heat accompanied the day’s play at the Blackrock Newcastle Golf Club, with many golfers seeking relief from the sun at watering holes across the course. Naturally, the day culminated with the announcement of its winners.
Of the officially handicapped golfers, Owen van Aarde amassed 45 points to take first prize, ahead of Sampie van der Berg (45 points on count out) and Uvesh Maharaj. On the non-golfers’ side, Johan Venter was top dog.
Numerous other prizes were awarded in categories such as ‘nearest the pins’ and ‘longest drive’, before the lucky draw saw golfers flock to the table for a prize of their choosing. Dr Rajesh Maharaj rounded proceedings off with a vote of thanks and a short speech on Majuba FET’s relevance.
