Batting world record is at hand
The event will be a non-stop, over 50 hours of batting which will start on the last Friday afternoon of January and end on the last Sunday afternoon in January
The planned Guiness World Record event to be staged by the Northern Districts Cricket Union (NDCU), in conjunction with the Department of Sport & Recreation and Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality, is gathering steam.
Communication between the NDCU and the Guiness hierarchy has opened and a final draft of the rules and regulations, as well as adjudication processes, will be on the union’s table soon.
There is also keen interest generated within the corporate sector, as businesses will be garnered to field a team of batsmen or bats-women. Schools and the cricket teams are submitting names of participants. The event will be a non-stop, over 50 hours of batting which will start on the last Friday afternoon of January and end on the last Sunday afternoon in January next year.
A batsman will strike a ball that will be propelled from a bowling machine. It will be non-stop action until a participant indicates to the umpire that he wishes to be replaced in a minute or two.
A quick exit will welcome another participant to continue batting for about an hour, and so forth. Stalls, music and other forms of entertainment will add splendour to the occasion. Discussions concerning a campsite are underway.
If the necessary permission can be obtained, then the Indoor Sports Complex will write another chapter in its illustrious history.
