Five tonnes of runs at match

More than 500 runs were scored at Sunday’s 50-Over League clash.

SAPS and Asians put on a batting masterclass which kept fans rooted to their seats throughout.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, SAPS mustered 285 runs for the loss of five wickets, a performance punctuated by a top score of 135 from Aslin and 39 for Majid.

Farouk was the pick of the Asians bowling attack, scalping two for 40 runs.

In the second innings, a high score of 121 not out from Altaf Topia and 56 from Sadik Bhula saw Asians reach their target score in just 30 overs, with five wickets in hand.

With three wickets for just 29 runs, Farhan was SAPS’ best bowler.

Commenting on the match, cricketing legend, Amos Cassimjee said it was the first time he had sat through an entire 50-over match, lauding the find batting on both sides.

This weekend, the Amajuba team will be in action in Estcourt.

Looking ahead, Mr Cassimjee said next Friday night would see the first in a series of day/night matches for players in the under-19, u/17 and u/14 age divisions.
