Breakwaters are triple champions after season of poor catches
They are the first club to achieve such a feat in the history of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA)

It was indeed a tough season and catches were poor throughout. But despite these trying conditions, Breakwaters emerged as triple champions, winning the League, Knockout and Grand Challenge titles. They are the first club to achieve such a feat in the history of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA). At most, they would win two of the three titles on offer, while the third would elude them.
The final competition of the association was the Grand Challenge. Vicky Bhooli was crowned ‘Grand Challenge Champion’ as he accumulated the most points for the day, finishing with eight points, followed by Shane Mangaroo (six) and Anil Boodhoo (four).
Monty Slabbert was crowned ‘BAC Knockout Champion’, while other title holders include Cheese Singh (League Champion and Champion of Champion), Sumeet Buduram (Internal Knockout Singles Champion), and Shakeel Sheik and Monty Slabbert (Knockout Doubles Champions).
Kaveer Singh was crowned the Social Outing Champion in the scaled category while Rishen Nankoo is the Social Outing Champion in the non scaled category. Brendon Ramdeyal holds the title for ‘heaviest scaled fish’ (a carp of 3.86kg caught during League 1), while Shane Mangaroo holds the title for ‘heaviest non-scaled fish’ (a barbel of 10.48kg caught in the first round of the Knockout Competition). Cheese Singh caught the most fish for the season and Jermaine Mohan was crowned ‘Junior Angler of the Year’, while Kidd Rampersadh earned the title of ‘Senior Angler of Year’. The coveted title of ‘Angler of the Year’ went to Breakwaters captain Monty Slabbert, finishing on 36 points, followed by Cheese Singh (34 points) and Kaveer Singh (32 points). Congratulations to all the victors!
The club will be holding its prize-giving, AGM and social outing at the Sandford camping site on June 28. The new season begins on August 1.
