A coach with a passion for sport is pleading to schools to invest in developing and grooming young children in all sports.

A Times of Ladysmith journalist caught up with Coach Faroek Seedat at Agra cricket grounds over the weekend during mini cricket practice, which is held every Saturday and Sunday morning at the grounds.

Mini cricket serves as the first taste of cricket for young boys and girls in the Ladysmith area.

Mini cricket is conducted by experienced cricket coach Mr Seedat, who has been on a cricket tour to India earlier this year.

This softball level gives the children the enjoyment that comes with participating in a team sport and also gets them acquainted with the basics of the game.

The children get to enjoy playing cricket as they learn the art of batting, bowling and fielding.
Faroek, who has many years’ experience in the sport, has a vision to make cricket an even more successful sport in Ladysmith by helping young, aspiring cricketers reach their dreams by developing their skills at an early age (five years old).
“I would like to see schools around KZN invest in developing these young stars,” says Faroek. “I really think that by nurturing their talents early, we will have future stars in the form of these young boys and girls,” adds Faroek.

This coach is now pleading with the community, especially schools, to encourage and motivate young boys and girls to take part in all forms of sport, as it helps keep them fit and stay away from drugs and alcohol.

So bring your youngsters to mini cricket so they can sharpen their skills.
