Anglers bag the top prizes
Ahead of the new season, Breakwaters Angling Club announced its numerous prize winners.
The local angling season was tough, owing to poor catches throughout the many competitions.
Despite the trying conditions, Breakwaters earned itself the triple championship crown, the first club to achieve such a feat in the history of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA).
Making history came down to the Grand Challenge, the final season competition.
At this event, Vicky Bhooli was crowned the ‘Grand Challenge Champion’, accumulating eight points for the day, ahead of Shane Mangaroo (six points) and Anil Boodhoo (four points).
Conversely, Monty Slabbert was dubbed the BAC ‘Knock Out Champion’.
Other title holders for Breakwaters Angling Club included Cheese Singh (League Champion and Champion of Champions), Sumeet Buduram (Internal Knock Out Singles Champ) and, Shakeel Sheik and Monty Slabbert (Knock Out Doubles Champions).
Kaveer Singh and Rishen Nankoo received the titles for Social Outing Champion in scaled and non-scaled respectively.
Holding the title for the heaviest scaled fish is Brendon Ramdeyal, with a carp of 3,86 kilograms, while Shane Mangaroo netted the heaviest non-scaled fish, with a barbel of 10,48kg.
Cheese Singh caught the most fish for the season.
Jermaine Mohan was crowned the junior angler of the year, Kidd Rampersadh was the senior angler of the year, and the biggie in the ‘Angler of the Year’ title was awarded to the BAC captain, Monty Slabbert.
He was only a few points ahead of Cheese Singh and Kaveer Singh.
Breakwaters will host its prize giving, social outing and Annual General Meeting at the Sandford camping site on June 28, ahead of the new season’s commencement on August 1.
