Burnt End

The monthly FedAuto meat competition attracted a smaller field than normal, due to the number of Newcastle bowlers attending District Trials in Vryheid.

Those present, however, had an enjoyable afternoon, with meat prizes going to the winning team of Mike Martens, Morne Peach and Diana Cronje.

The KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls annual general meeting was hosted by Vryheid Bowling Club last weekend, with President, Andy Crosbie re-elected to a position he has held with honour for a number of years.

Trials for the 2016 provincial tournaments were then held, and some Northern Zone players were selected for teams, to play in the Presidents Cup in October.

This will serve as the final trial before the announcement of the 2016 teams:

Ladies

A team – Nan Roos (Dundee) and Samantha Shaw (Newcastle).

B team – Michelle Steele (Newcastle).

Seniors – Dorothy Crosbie (Newcastle).

President’s team – Vicky van der Merwe and Marie Botha (both Newcastle).

Men

A team – Douglas Steele (Newcastle) and Phillip Scheepers (Vryheid).

B team – Stephan Shaw and Fritz Botha (both Newcastle), Tony de Pooter and Gerhard Smith (Volksrust).

Seniors – Hogart Gevers and John Cross (both Vryheid), John and Trevor Douthwaite (both Newcastle).

President’s team – Monty Steele (Newcastle).
