The annual Butokukan South African National Gasshuku (training camp) and black belt grading were recently held at the Butokukan SA Hombu Dojo in Wierda Park, Centurion.
The gasshuku training was facilitated by Sensei Carel van der Westhuizen, chief instructor of Butokukan SA.
Four students from Butokukan Newcastle attended the event and attempted the black belt grading.
Doing their dojo proud, Girard Oberholzer was awarded his third Dan, Izak Botha and Zarina Khan both achieved their second Dan, while Dr Yusuf Moola was awarded his first Dan.
“I’m very proud of all the students who were awarded higher ranks, as they worked really hard for it. I am also very proud of everyone who attended the gasshuku. I am sure that they learned a lot and enjoyed the training,” said Sensei Frik Willemse of Butokukan Newcastle.
