Challengers hit back from the deep

At a tense weigh-in, it was Challengers who made the clean sweep, with Tony Singh finishing as ‘angler of the day’ on seven points, winning the Orange Cap, his outright trophy and R200.

The VME League’s second round was held at Richgate Park on August 30.

This thrilling fixture saw Challengers topple the mighty Breakwaters outfit, to avenge their defeat in the opening league competition.

Both teams are tied on 10 points, followed by the ever-improving Stillwaters on four.

His counterpart, Dan Govender retained the Purple Cap, atop the log with 15 points.

Challengers earned R500 for winning the second league, and with each forthcoming competition and the chance for glory, it promises an interesting and exciting season ahead.

At present, Challengers have 33 points, Breakwaters are on 29 and Stillwaters have 16.

Dan Govender still has the heaviest carp of 3,25 kilogrammes, while Nicky le Roux of Stillwaters bagged the heaviest barbel, weighing in at 2,14kg.

The top five anglers within Breakwaters and Stillwaters are:

Shakeel Sheik is on six points, ahead of Ossie Oosthuizen and Nicky le Roux on five points, Kidd Rampersadh on four and Vicky Bhooli on three.

Shakeel also tops the internal log with nine points, with Kaveer Singh and Kidd tied on seven.

The next competition is the second round of the Champion of Champions, for both Breakwaters and Stillwaters, on September 13 at Richgate Park.

Fixtures of the Angling Professional League (APL) will break for the fasting period.

The next APL competition is round three of the VME League, which takes place on November 8 at Sandford.
