Touch rugby players on the ball
Despite weather wreaking havoc on the Wesbank Motor and Outdoor Festival, 12 teams from across the country were represented, even from as far afield as Piet Retief.
Sleight of hand, twist of fate.
Although U2 has made this phrase famous, entrants into the second Vlam Panelbeaters touch rugby tournament played it out on rain-soaked fields on Saturday.
Not even water could slow the treads of the competitors.
Despite weather wreaking havoc on the Wesbank Motor and Outdoor Festival, 12 teams from across the country were represented, even from as far afield as Piet Retief.
“The crowd was well entertained with the skills level of the club rugby and school team mix, in these wet conditions,” explained co-organiser, Christo van der Vyver.
After all was said and done on the field, it was the Ferrum Frogs who claimed the first place berth, fending off a spirited Met Eish to claim top honours.
Third place was awarded to the Tigers from Newcastle High School.
Congratulating all teams who had participated, Mr van der Vyver made special mention of the club rugby side from Piet Retief, for their sportsmanship and competitive play.
“They narrowly lost to NHS Tigers in the third and fourth place playoffs, by means of a coin toss, after extra time was played.”
