Golfers warm up for championships

The course is playing very well and with the green-keeping staff working tirelessly through this week, the conditions should be excellent for Saturday and Sunday

The weekend saw a number of golfers play in the club sponsored day on Saturday in perfect weather conditions. It was an ideal day to get in some practice and fine tune one’s game for the Club Championships this weekend.

The course is playing very well and with the green-keeping staff working tirelessly through this week, the conditions should be excellent for Saturday and Sunday.

A better-ball club-sponsored day was held on Saturday and there were some interesting combinations playing: with father and daughter, father and sons or grandsons, plus a few personal bets on the table. The rumour circulating around the 19th hole is that the captain won his bet, but at the time of going to press, there had been no comment or statement issued from the club.

The scores returned by the players were quite impressive and the best of the field on 48 points happened to be Thokozani Dladla and Bheki Mbokazi, with Gia and Enrico Bozza in second on 45 points. It is really great to see father and daughter playing – well done to Gia for carrying her dad through the back nine with a very good 22 pointsThe rest of the field has requested that they play together more often, as the course is a lot quieter.

The third place winners were Patrick Pieterse and Enrico Bozza, with Enrico also winning the ‘nearest the pin’ on the 8th and Bheki on the 12th. The two club winners were G Bozza, Leon Steenkamp, Retief Marais and Gerhard Blignaut.

Well done to all this weekend’s winners and good luck to all those of you playing in the Club Champs this weekend.
