Jurie clinches Strokeplay Golf Championships

The 2016 Golf Club Championships, played over 36 holes, took place over the past weekend at Dundee Country Club which saw Jurie Engelbrecht making a great birdie on the last hole to be crowned Men’s A division champion for 2016.
Jurie, together with Mason Meyer and Sifiso Kunene all carded rounds of 72 on Saturday to lead the field after the first 18 holes.
However, on Sunday, both Mason and Sifiso faulted in their challenge for top honours to see Jurie win the championship by two shots on 147, with the ever consistent Joe Khumalo finishing in second place on 149.
The men’s B division was won by Dan Scholtz who managed to shoot two identical rounds of 83 to finish on 166 and beat both S Sithole and W Maritz by one shot.
The men’s C division, played in the I.P.S. format saw Leon Wellman coming out tops scoring 76 points for the two rounds.
Natasha Du Plessis managed to hold off a late challenge from Veronica Donaldson to be crowned the Ladies B division champion for 2016 and the ladies C division was won by Dolly Bradbury.
The Club Matchplay Championships will take place over the weekend April 30 and May 1 and the following players have qualified and are requested to make themselves available; A Division: J Engelbrecht, J Khumalo, G Robson, M Meyer, S Kunene, C Mkhwanazi, K Roets, H Booysen and reserve A Mbatha.
The B division players are, D Scholtz. S Sithole, W Maritz, W Ackerman, M Bradbury, B Chiwaya, C Chawanda, D Von Mollendorff and reserve is B Sandy.
The competition diarised for this coming Saturday is the Windhoek Pairs, a betterball competition where the winners have an opportunity to represent the province in Namibia.
