Vryheid Rugby Club – ‘Embrace the winning spirit’

The team will wear their jerseys with pride this Saturday as they travel to Piet Retief to go head to head with the local team, in what is likely to be a physical game against a side that has often proven themselves tough to beat, according to Head Coach, Rich Verster.

It’s been a phenomenal start to the season for Vryheid Rugby Club’s men in maroon.

“The gents are moving towards the goal we set at the beginning of the year,” says First Team Captain, David Sandalls. “I’m a proud Captain and it gives me goosebumps watching as the guys practise and play the game they love. Good luck, boys. This is our year.”

Their sterling performance so far, including a remarkable victory over the Mighty Buffaloes last weekend, has not gone unnoticed. Dr Willem Labuschagne of Bundu Gear, along with his wife, Marlene, visited the club at Thursday night’s practice to present the first team with a sponsorship of new jerseys.

“I’m impressed by their performance so far this season,” said Dr Labuschagne. “I’d like to encourage the teams to embrace the winning spirit,” he added.

“It’s sure to be a physical game against Piet Retief,” says Verster. “But we’re fielding stronger sides in our first and second teams than we have in the last few years. We have a second team that is strong enough to take on the first team and there’s a good spirit among the guys,” he adds. “It’s great to see over fifty players on the field at a practice and it makes for healthy competition between the boys. Saturday’s game will be an expansive one,” he continues, “but we’re looking forward to scoring some good tries with the backs.”

Fans and supporters are invited to join the team on Saturday night for a ‘post match party’ at Vryheid Rugby Club.
