Bowlers make it a round 10

Bowling Club hosted the annual KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Pro 10 play-offs last weekend.

All participating clubs from the District are entitled to send two teams, after playoffs held at their own clubs.

The format of this competition is different to the standard pairs format, in that each player only plays with two bowls, and the scoring is done with the closest bowl counting four, the second-closest three, down to the fourth-closest counting one.

Thus, 10 points are scored on each end.

A total of 10 ends are played (100 points), and the team with the most points is then declared the winner.

The participating teams were divided into four sections, which were all closely contested.

Section winners were: Helga Kauz and Helena de Wet – Empangeni BC; Sid Price and Lou Roux – Newcastle; Barry Mutlow and Ronel Greeff – Richards Bay; Mike Lovell and Steve Oberholzer – Richards Bay.

The four section winners all played against each other on Sunday morning.

Tension was high as the teams finishing first and second would win an all expenses paid trip to Cape Town, to compete in the South African Pro 10 playoffs.

This honour went to Sid and Lou, who took first place, two points ahead of Barry and Ronel, followed by last year’s finalists, Mike and Steve, and the team of Helga and Helene.

Well done all.

On the local front, the club chicken competition, played on Saturday afternoon, was won by Billy Nicholas, Gordon Dowsett, Andy Robinson and Michael McArthur.
