Vlam Athletics Club recently held its first awards ceremony for 2015/ 2016 for top athletes

WATERSIDE – Vlam Athletics Club recently held its first awards ceremony for 2015/ 2016 for top athletes at Waterside Wimpy.

Manager of Vlam Panel Beaters and event organiser, Mduduzi Vilakazi said they were honoured to host the event, but even more so to acknowledge their athletes for their hard work and dedication.

Mabongi Mdakane from the Department of Community service was the guest speaker of the day, and encouraged athletes to work hard and become better sportsmen.

“Sport is one of the most important things in life as it keeps your mind and body healthy,” she said.

She said sport was an excellent career choice to pursue.

Vlam athlete, Colin Kubeka thanked their sponsors, coaches and fellow athletes for their continuous hard work and dedication.

Athletes received trophies, certificates and medals in the following categories:

– Best male and female athlete

– Most improved athlete

– Rookie athletes of the year and best achievers.

Special awards went to the best team organiser and the most consistent athlete. A special management award was also handed over.
