With the second race from Winburg last week, members and their birds were put to the test in challenging weather.

NEWCASTLE – The Newcastle Racing Pigeon Club has found its wings.

With the second race from Winburg last week, members and their birds were put to the test in challenging weather.

Each fancier was eager for their birds to return to the loft.

“The birds were liberated at 8am for the young birds and 8.30am for the Open category,” explained club race secretary, Danie van Niekerk.

Velocities peaked at 1 520 metres per minute in the open race.

“The more mature hands in the sport showed us young ones how it’s done, again.”

Congratulations to Koos Ferreira, who took first place in the Young Bird race, and the first four spots in the Open race.

Johan Ferreira was hot on his heels.

“Well done to all, for the excellent results.”
