Birds take on blue skies

NEWCASTLE – New contenders have risen from the ranks of the Newcastle Racing Pigeon Club.

Renier van Niekerk ended Saturday’s race from Dewetsdorp as leader of the Young Bird Race, fending off Gerhard van der Merwe’s flock.

Renier also took third place.

The Old Bird race saw the Narian family end ahead of Koos Ferreira, who clinched both second and third place in the division.

Race secretary, Danie van Niekerk congratulated all competitors.
