NBC committee keeps the faith

Sterling leadership from the NBC committee led to re-election in its entirety.

The Newcastle Bowling Club (NBC) hosted its AGM last Saturday afternoon, with a pleasing number of bowlers in attendance.

President, Monty Steele congratulated all members who had done well in numerous local and district competitions, and thanked all the sponsors who generously support the club.

He also paid tribute to his committee for the sterling work done during their term of office, and it was a vote of confidence they were all re-elected for the new bowling year.

Special mention was made of the late Andy Crosbie, who served his club and district with honour during his many years on the committee.

The new committee is as follows:

President – Monty Steele
Vice president – Koen Pretorius
Treasurer – Gerald Boyd
Secretary – Samantha Shaw
Competition secretary – Michelle Steele
Greenkeeper – Sid Price
General committee – Dorothy Crosbie, Colin Broderick, Douglas Steele, Graham Robinson and Lindsay McArthur.

A breakthrough decision was made at the AGM regarding the dress code, which will hopefully attract many new members. Players may now wear civilian cloths (collared shorts and flat shoes compulsory) during all tabs-in games.

Club colours must be worn, however, during club competitions, including the regular meat competitions and also when representing NBC at district competitions.

The annual prize giving followed, with the winners and runners-up of the many club competitions receiving their prizes.

The AGM of KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls will be held at the Dundee Bowling Club on Saturday, followed by trials on Saturday and Sunday, to select provisional teams for the 2017 Inter District tournaments.
