This also assisted the karateka in their mental preparation.
“Prior to the grading was a training session, attended by senior brown belts and black belts, all under the guidance of myself,” explained Johan La Grange, a sixth Dan and chief instructor of the local JKA dojo.
He said the students were given pointers, and emphasis was placed on the importance of hip movement and core strength, to maximise speed, agility, technique and impact.
“Congratulations to all the candidates who passed their grading, and those who helped them reach this point. It is a wonderful achievement for individual and the region.”
