PARADISE – The inaugural addition of the Perfect Water Six-a-side Tournament was launched at the Paradise Grounds on Saturday, March 18.

A total of 12 teams set their sights on the grand prize, with the first two days set aside for round robin action.

The new format was an immediate hit with the players, while fans were treated to some wonderful matches.

On Saturday, Phoenix beat AMSA by 31 runs, while Paradise defeated NDCA Invitational by 20 runs. President 6 won Highlands with 17 runs, while Asians beat Lennoxton with 20 runs. Eagles then won Warriors by 16 runs, While Underdogs beat Paradise Invite by 22 runs. Eagles then lost to Paradise by 30 runs, while Asians beat Phoenix by 10 runs.

On Sunday, Underdogs beat Highlands by 12 runs, while Lennoxton beat AMSA by 87 runs. NDCA Invitational won Warriors by 61 runs, and President 6 won Paradise Invitational by eight runs. Phoenix then won Lennoxton by 13 runs, Paraidse won Warriors with 66 runs and Paradise beat Highlands by seven runs.

As the finals approach, three round robin matches will determine the final log standings, and the top eight teams will advance in the tournament while the bottom four will say their goodbyes.

At present, Paradise stands on top of the Perfect Water six-a-side log, with FNB Insurance Brokers in second place and Asians in third.

Cricket teams have now also entered the final week of round robin matches in the KFC Night League, where two teams are contesting for the top spot on the standings.

Asians and Phoenix are level on points and will face each other this week, in what could be a dress rehearsal for the final, with Underdogs the only other team in the running for the final.

Asians accounted for Drakensberg Old Boys where a century from Sohail Gori was the performance of the competition thus far.

Phoenix beat Eagles by 109 runs courtesy of a Graham Sharp half century, that kept his team on course for a place in grand finale.

It all comes down to the final three matches that will determine the finalists.
