Highlanders fall in league opener

Boschpick Highlanders suffered defeat in its opening Premier Division clash on Saturday.

The first team was handed a 70 – nil thrashing at the hands ofVarsity College at Growthpoint Kings Park, while the second team was dispatched by 66 points to zero.

Highlanders will be hard at work to overcome this early hurdle.

Two games took place in Newcastle on Saturday as well, the first of which was the encounter between the under-20 team and College Rovers.

This match truly came down to the wire. When the final whistle blew, Rovers held onto a narrow two-point lead to defeat the budding locals by 24 points to 22.

The only win from the weekend came courtesy of the third team.

Despite little support in the stands, Highlanders III put on a try-scoring clinic to utterly smash Bergville Zebras 123 – 14.
