Anglers bring on the competition at Transnat Knockout semi-finals

RICHGATE PARK – The Angling Professional League (APL) Transnat Knock Out semi-final was held at Richgate Park on March 12.
It proved to be a daunting task as anglers pushed through poor catches and multiple ‘stucks’ as anglers lost fish and traces due to thick vegetation underwater.
In Zone 2, Ladysmith Angling Club got 57 points, beating a very spirited and determined Stillwaters Angling Club that got 22 points, while in Zone 3 and 4, Breakwaters received 19 points, defeating Challengers that got eight points.
Top angler of the day was Haroon Bosman of Ladysmith Angling Club who bagged 14 points, receiving the orange cap, R 200 cash and an outright trophy for his outstanding achievements.
Both Breakwaters and Ladysmith Angling Clubs will match up in the Transnat Knock Out Final on April 9 at Sandford.
The next fixture, VME League 6, will be held on March 26 at Sandford, with Breakwaters favourably placed to be crowned the VME League Champions, leading the log with 44 points, followed by Ladysmith with 34 points, Stillwaters with 32 points, Challengers with 29 points and Dannhauser with seven seven points.
The current record holders of APL so far are: Preethum Birbal (Challengers AC – heaviest carp of 3,650kg), Sikander Amod (Stillwaters AC – heaviest non-scaled fish of 6,9kg), Suvyn Budhoo (Stillwaters AC– rare specie – a bass of 1,090kg), Veruschka Boodhoo (Stillwaters AC– Lady Angler of the Year), Dan Govender (Ladysmith AC – senior angler of the year) and Ebrahim Mia (Challengers AC – Angler of Year).
The overall leader of APL is Ebrahim Mia (green cap) of Challengers with an impressive 75 points.
