Jo pips Mason in exciting golf final

The match was all square with both players recording sub par round of 70 forcing the match to go into a sudden death playoff, Jo Khumalo eventually was crowned the matchplay champion on the 20th hole.

On Sunday the finals of Dundee Country Clubs Golf Matchplay Championships took place which saw a very closely contested match in the Men’s A division between Jo Khumalo and Mason Meyer. The match was all square after the regulatory 18 holes with both players recording sub par round of 70 forcing the match to go into a sudden death playoff, with Jo Khumalo eventually been crowned the matchplay champion on the 20th hole.

The Men’s B division was also a close affair with Aaron Mbatha just managing to overcome Petros Mhlungu 2/1 to become the B division champion for 2017. The ladies all competed in one division and Lorien de Wit was crowned Lady Champion after beating Dolly Bradbury in the final. Saturday’s IPS Club competition attracted a field of 38 players and winning the day was Willie “John Wayne” Maritz on 40 individual points after managing to beat Leon Wellman on a count out. Second position went to Jo Khumalo on 39 points followed by Dave Donaldson on 38 points.

All of five players managed to record a 2 Club on the day, and they were: J Khumalo on the 8th, L Wellman, J Zulu and W Maritz on the 12th together with P Vlok on the 16th hole. All golfers, members and friends, are reminded that our annual Battlefields Tournament takes place from Friday April 14 to Sunday April 16 and the entry forms are available from The Pro Shop. This weekend’s fixtures are: Saturday is the Monthly Mug Medal competition and on Sunday, Dunpro hold their annual Oriental Golf Day.
