Sweet revenge for angling newcomers

The new season promises to be very competitive, and intense competition is forecast

The APL hosted the ‘Transnat Knockout Final’ at Zone 2, Richgate Park, on April 9.

It was sweet revenge for newcomers Ladysmith Angling Club when they toppled VME League champions Breakwaters Angling Club with a score-line reading 51 points to 27 in favour of Ladysmith AC.

Congratulations to Ladysmith AC on their victory in the maiden season with the APL, as they were crowned the Transnat Knockout champions.

It’s one piece of silverware for each club.

Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters was the ‘Angler of the Day’, scoring 10 points and winning the Orange cap, an outright trophy and a R200 cash prize.

The showdown between Breakwaters and Ladysmith AC will be revived on April 23 at Richgate Park during the final fixture of the season – the AA Tours Grand Challenge, where the league champions take on the knockout champions.

The APL places on record its sincere appreciation to Yusuf Amedjee of AA Tours for the sponsorship of the Grand Challenge to the tune of R2000, which effectively means that all three major competitions of the APL are fully sponsored.

The current record holders of the APL thus far are: Preethum Birbal (Challengers AC – heaviest carp of 3.650kg); Sikander Amod (Stillwaters AC – heaviest non-scaled fish of 6.9kg); Suvyn Budhoo (Stillwaters AC – rare species – a bass of 1.090kg); Veruschka Boodhoo (Stillwaters AC – Lady Angler of the Year); Iqbal Ashraff (Challengers AC – Senior Angler of the Year); Ebrahim Mia (Challengers AC – Angler of the Year; Nadir Chrisenduth (Breakwaters – second) and Mohamed Mia (Challengers AC – third overall for the season).

They received tackle vouchers to the value of R3000, R2000 and R1000 respectively. This brings to an end a successful season under the auspices of the APL, having increased its membership from three to five clubs.

The new season promises to be very competitive, and intense competition is forecast. The new season commences on August 1. For more information regarding the APL, kindly contact Matthew on 082-807-8919.
