Putt-putting on the bowling green
The evergreen team of the Putt Putts ended off its good season with a victory to finish top of the pops, followed by Wesbank in second place, Ay Saaba (We Are Here) in third spot and in fourth, Safari Geezers.
The 2017 FedAuto Summer Business League came to a fitting conclusion last Thursday evening with the final session, where the teams from the two participating sections played against one another.
The evergreen team of the Putt Putts ended off its good season with a victory to finish top of the pops, followed by Wesbank in second place, Ay Saaba (We Are Here) in third spot and in fourth, Safari Geezers.
Propping up the bottom of the log was team Laniq Metals.
The spyder held at the beginning of the session was won by Deon Vermeulen.
For the spyder, all bowlers made a donation to charity then stood in the ditch boards surrounding the green, and following a count to three, all bowled at a jack with a coin atop in the middle of the green – after all bowls are bowled, the bowl closest the coin is declared the winner.
The generosity of the players raised an amount of R600 for the Blind Bowlers Association.
Players greatly appreciated the gesture of FedAuto to sponsor the generous meat prizes for the raffles held each week and for the final prizes.
A huge word of thanks is expressed to the sponsors and to Michelle Steel for running the tournament, to Koen Pretorius and Lindsay McArthur for selling raffle tickets, to Douglas Steele for the music, to Graham Robinson for manning the trailer and to Yurinda for taking care of the refreshments before, during and after the games.
The greens will unfortunately be closed for the Easter weekend.
