Anglers gear up for a new, exciting season
Breakwaters were crowned as the VME League Champions and AA Tours Grand Challenge Champions, while newcomers Ladysmith Angling Club were crowned as the Transnat Knockout Champions

The new season of the Angling Professional League (APL) will start on August 1. The annual general meeting of the APL will be held on July 8 at the War Room, Suryaville, commencing at 3pm.
In its relatively short existence, the APL has seen phenomenal growth and an increase in membership. In the 2014/2015 season, there were four teams consisting of about 10 members a team. In 2015/2016, the APL had three fully-fledged clubs, namely Breakwaters, Stillwaters and Challengers. Its membership increased in the 2016/2017 season, with Dannhauser and Ladysmith Angling clubs joining the fold.
In the new season, 2017/2018, Glencoe Angling Club has joined the fold of the APL, which adds to the popularity of the APL and intensifies the competition.
Reflecting on a rather successful season, Breakwaters were crowned as the VME League Champions and AA Tours Grand Challenge Champions, while newcomers Ladysmith Angling Club were crowned as the Transnat Knockout Champions.
The APL thanks its major sponsors – VME, Transnat, Paper House and AA Tours – our members, families and well-wishers for an exciting and gruelling season. The new season promises to be even better.
The title holders of the season are: Preetam Birbal (Challengers AC – heaviest carp of 3.650kg); Sikander Amod (Stillwaters AC – heaviest non-scaled fish of 6.9kg); Suvyn Budhoo (Stillwaters AC – rare specie – a bass of 1.090kg, winning himself R500 in this category); Talia Boodhoo (Junior Angler of the Year – Stillwaters); Veruschka Boodhoo (Stillwaters AC – Lady Angler of the Year); Iqbal Asraff (Senior Angler of the Year – Challengers) and Ebrahim Mia (Challengers AC – Angler of the Year with 75 points); followed by Nadir Chrisenduth (Breakwaters AC on 64 points) and Mohamed Mia (Challengers AC on 52 points).
