Newcastle’s karate kid kicks off to Ireland

Don’t be fooled by her petite frame and bashful persona Jaydene Naidoo packs a mean karate punch.

Her sheer determination and hard work has allowed her a chance to jet-off to Ireland to compete in her favourite sport – karate.

The 14-year-old sensation was first introduced to the art of karate at the tender age of six.

Her passion for the sport grew immediately, and she was soon on the fast track to success.

“Karate has taught me self-control and discipline,” she said.

By the age of 12, Jaydene had effortlessly obtained her South African colours when she competed in the African Cup of Nations.

She also has numerous certificates, medals and trophies under her belt, from tournaments she has competed in.

In between her busy schedule as a Grade 9 pupil at Newcastle High School, Jaydene also finds the time to train with Sensei Johan Swart on Mondays and Wednesdays.

With dedication and diligence, she has also earned her junior black belt three in karate. She will be graded again in July; a milestone she considered exciting.
