Klipkouer to push the boundaries of offroad

Offroad enthusiasts are invited to enjoy the invigorating splendour of Clarens’ mountains and valleys, and share the excitement of the Clarens Klipkouer Challenge with someone special.
The Easter Free State town, popular as a weekend getaway, hosts this unique event on August 5 to raise funds for critical community projects in the area.
According to organising committee member, Johann Lehman, Klipkouer is designed to cater for children and experienced offroaders alike.

“Entrants will get to know the secret back roads of this scenic part of the country that few have ever seen.”
He explained the purpose of the one-day event was to challenge city slickers and townies alike to ‘get away from the mundane, paved roads of the urban jungle’.
Lehman emphasised Klipkouer was not a race.
“It’s rather a challenge to let you interact with your vehicle, the road and the wild outdoors. We think you might get a little adrenaline rush.”
There are separate routes for 4×4 offroad vehicles, quad bikes and offroad motorcycles, plus a special track for children on quads, motorcycles and buggies.
The route can be complete between four and eight hours, depending on the entrant.
All the action commences and concludes at farm Memiesrust, on the R712 between Clarens and Bethlehem.
“Food, beverages, amenities and service will be based here. Ample secure parking is available.”
The Clarens Klipkouer Challenge takes entrants over sandstone formations formed millions of years ago, to experience breathtaking scenery, dizzying heights, steep valleys and pure mountain air.
