Local racers knew they had to dominate the track and keep Newcastle's honour intact.
Newcastle Oval Track came alove on Saturday, when local speedsters competed against racers from Richards Bay.

Not used to racing on a dirt track, the Richards Bay racers felt apprehensive, but were ready to accept the challenge.
In the Rookie Division, Tiaan Buys clinched first place, followed by CJ Myburgh and Stephan van der Merwe in second and third places respectively.
The Women’s Division saw spectators flinch in fear, when a collision took place on the track.
Due to the visitors’ inexperience on a dirt track, one of the women drivers lost control of her vehicle and crashed into Newcastle’s Zaakira Khan, whose vehicle then collided with the barrier. This collision left Khan injured and her car wrecked, she was unable to continue racing that night.
Wilma Lindeque took first place in the Women’s Division, while Vanessa Marx sped into second place, and Isone Bester secured third place.
Ali Jamaloodeen took first place in the 1600 Category, followed by Collin Rheeders in second place and Eugene Coetzer in third place.
The win for the 1660 Division went to Pieter Bester, with Tiaan Buys in second place and Kevin White in third position.
Gert Geringer sped into first place in the Two-litre Division, with Anthony van der Merwe in second place and Pieter Bester in third position.
In the Go-Kart category, Thabo-Jan Ntjobokoane secured first place, followed by Shakeela Ameer in second place and Raeesa Cassim in third position.
Hendrik van der Merwe dominated the Hot Rod Division, coming in first. He was followed by Marcel Kotze and Anthony van der Merwe in second and third places respectively.
In the Lexus Division, Craig Lindeque took first place, with Flip Gericke coming in a close second.
Boet Buys sped into first place in the Tin Top Division, with JP Bruin coming in second and JC de Beer third.
