Welcome storm saturates golfers
Winning the A division Mug was Gene Robson, who shot a net 65 after managing to finish his round before the storm arrived.
The Monthly Mug Medal golf competition at Dundee Country Club was interrupted for over half an hour on Saturday due to a sudden thunderstorm and lightning in close proximity. Although the short downpour that followed saw a number of golfers running for shelter before being saturated, the rain was very welcome, and once the storm had passed, the players were allowed to continue with their round. By then, a handful of the players had left the club to go home and change out of their wet clothing.
Winning the A division Mug was Gene Robson, who shot a net 65 after managing to finish his round before the storm arrived. Jo Khumalo recorded the best gross score of 71 to finish second overall in the A division. The B division Mug was won by Cyril Mkhwanazi on a net 70 while Debbie Catlett was the best of the ladies B division golfers with Elaine Booysen taking home the Ladies C division mug.
Friday afternoon’s 10 hole meat competition saw seven players taking part and was won by Wayne Bezuidenhout, a visitor from Glencoe G.C. followed by Debbie Catlett.
For the first time in many months, there wasn’t a single player who managed to record a 2 Club on any of the short par 3’s in a Saturday competition, and there was also no winner of the jackpot.

Golfers are in for a bumper treat this coming weekend with loads of prizes up for grabs, as the SPCA will be holding their charity golf day on Saturday, a 4 B.B.B.S. competition, and on Sunday the Dundee Open Strokeplay Champs will be played over 36 holes, generously sponsored by Charlies SuperSpar. All members are reminded that Dundee C.C. is hosting the KZN Ladies Inter-Club from Thursday, October 26 to Saturday, October 28 and the club will, unfortunately, be closed to everyone for these three days, except to those participating or involved in the organisation of this tournament.
