Inaugural Estcourt Hospice Golf Day is a huge success

"Estcourt Golf Club wishes to thank Estcourt Hospice for all the hard work that went into organising,"

Philip Boshoff
There seems to be no end to the great work that Estcourt Hospice does in our town.

This was even proven on the golf course on Saturday as they sponsored their inaugural golf day at Estcourt Golf Club.

48 golfers took to the course with the shortest to the pin winners on all par threes being as follows: third – L Mlotswa, seventh – S Zaca, 12th – J Molefe and on the 16th – J Majola (who also had the only two club on the day).

Estcourt Hospice had a set of irons up for grabs and winner after a shoot out was Tuppy Schiever.  They also had four items up for auction with the highlight being a beautiful handmade carvery set donated by Leroy Gericke.

Tuppy Schiever winner of the chipping competition and carvery set with outgoing Estcourt Hospice Association Chairperson, Leroy Gericke and Hospice Manager Rena Licen.

The main competition was won by Johannes Mchunu and Philip Boshoff on 49 points, Johannes is also known as chicken, who used to be a caddy and is now applying years of experience as a caddy at Estcourt Golf Club as a golfer.
Is this the start of big things to come for him?

Husband and wife team of Arnold and Gail Boettiger came in second and in third the pairing of Sam Sewsunker and Seo Mthetwa.

Estcourt Golf Club wishes to thank Estcourt Hospice for all the hard work that went into organising this day, Nikki Titlestad and her kitchen staff for scrumptious snacks and every single visitor that played on Saturday.

Friday’s nine hole competition was won by Bunn Hamman on 21 points. Don’t forget our monthly Skaap Dag this coming Saturday.

To all golfers playing in Estcourt, slow play is a serious issue on all courses and playing at a better pace is not about hurrying up or rushing around the course. It is simply about being more efficient with our valuable time, as well as everyone else’s.

Here are a few tips to maintain and improve pace:
1. Get to the opening tee box five minutes prior to your time slot.
2. Always carry a spare ball.
3. If you can’t score a point, pick up.
4. Do NOT park your carts in front of the green, park between the green and the next tee box.
5. Fill in your scores at the next tee box and not on the green you’ve just finished at.
6. Keep halfway breaks as short as possible.
7. Play ready golf on the tee boxes
8. Play your shot before you help looking for another golfer’s lost ball.
9. Read and line up your putt as you get to the green and not only when it’s your turn to putt.
10. If another golfer is in the bunker, rake the sand after his shot while he changes clubs for the green.
