Another nailbiting APL ‘fish off’
The competition was intense as Breakwaters tried to bounce back after their defeat during League 1.
The VME League 2, under the auspices of the Angling Professional League (APL), was fished at Sandford on October 22.
The competition was intense as Breakwaters tried to bounce back after their defeat during League 1. Their arch rivals, Ladysmith Angling Club, aimed to consolidate their position. In the end, it was Ladysmith AC that prevailed (51pts) followed by Breakwaters (48 pts); Challengers (20 pts) and Stillwaters (15 pts); Dannhauser (10 pts) and Glencoe AC (8 pts).
The VME League Table is topped by Ladysmith AC (24 pts); followed by Breakwaters (20 pts); Challengers (14 pts); Dannhauser (12 pts); Stillwaters (10 pts) and Glencoe (4pts).
The “Angler of Day” was Yusheer Govinder (who received the coveted orange cap) of Ladysmith AC with 11 points, and took home R200 (sponsored by Yusuf Amedjee of AA Tours) and an outright trophy.
The overall leader of the APL is Albert Van Niekerk of Breakwaters (19 pts), followed by Yusheer Govinder (12 pts) and Monty Slabbert (11 pts).
The top five anglers for Breakwaters and Stillwaters were Monty Slabbert (10 pts) followed by Albert Van Niekerk (8 pts); Henry Duvenhage (5 pts); Vicky Dass (5 pts) and Siyabonga Yisa (5 pts). The top spot in Breakwaters is occupied by their captain, Monty Slabbert (23 points) who is hotly pursued by Albert Van Niekerk on 21 points.
The next fixture of the APL is League 3 at Richgate Park on November 12 which promises to be another nail-biting affair.
