Ladysmith swimmers all geared up for SA Champs
With only 1 week to go before the SA Open Water Champs, our swimmers had the opportunity to get some more open water experience at the Chelmsford Challenge on Sunday
The club would like to congratulate JJ van der Hoogen (5km and 3km), Kyle van Vuuren (3km) and Anke Fourie (3km), who will be part of the KZNA team for the SA Open Water Champs from March 3 to 4 in Jeffreys Bay.
With only one week to go before the SA Open Water Champs, our swimmers had the opportunity to get some more open water experience at the Chelmsford Challenge on Sunday.
When they arrived at the dam, it was overcast, but perfect water conditions prevailed. Anke Fourie and JJ van der Hoogen swam the 3km event. We are very proud of them, as JJ came second in the male event and Anke second in the female event.
Next up it was Anke in the 1km for women and again she came second overall, and first in her age group. In the next event, 1km for men, it was JJ, Kyle van Vuuren and Justin van Vuuren. JJ came second overall and first in his age group. Kyle came fourth overall and second in his age group, with Justin fifth overall and first in his age group. Congratulations to all these swimmers on their performances!
Then it was time for the 500m fun swim. This is really a fun swim and an ideal opportunity to introduce swimmers to open water swimming. Amy decided it was time for her to take on the open water challenge and she loved it, so maybe we will see her in the 1km next season.
On Saturday JJ, Kyle and Justin will swim at Sterkfontein Dam. Good luck to them, as this can be a very challenging event.
We also have swimmers who will be travelling to Durban for the KZNA primary and high school trials. All the best to all of you. To the other swimmers who are getting ready for level champs, good luck and keep on training.
