Golf club hosts opening fixture of Midlands League

On Sunday Estcourt Golf Club hosted 40 players for the opening league fixture. The day turned out to be a great success with perfect weather and great course conditions ensuring quality golf on the day.

On Saturday the club had 24 players playing in the club sponsored day. It was a day for the old seasoned golfers as they dominated on the day, Fred and Paddy winning on 47, Lional and Gordan taking second spot on 42 and in third Carlo and Shane.

At the Valentine’s betterball competition on the 14th, sponsored by George and N3 Fire, Colin Francis and Dave McFie took the honours.

Then on Friday the usual nine hole competition, the green keeper challenged all members to better his score, he made 18 points on the front nine and out of the 21 players only George van Niekerk managed a better score, he made a well played 20 points.

This coming weekend the club will host its monthly Skaap Dag. This month Wilfie Laatz and Owen Mcluckie will be the sponsors and the format is different than usual.

It will be 27 holes, broken up as follows:

First 9 = greensomes: Both players tee off, choose which drive they will play and then play alternate shot from there on.
Second 9 = foursomes: partners alternate the tee boxes, one player will always tee off the odd holes and the other on the even holes, then it will be alternate shot until the ball drops. Third 9 = a normal betterball format.
