Bowls club to take to the high seas
The club would like to wish the juniors and coaches safe travels as they travel to Piet Retief this weekend to take part in the second practice for the National Championships to take place in Bloemfontein in April.
This past weekend six mixed pairs teams from Dundee travelled to Vryheid to take part in the Zone Mixed Pairs competition.
A total of 32 teams entered, the largest number of teams in a long time. Conditions underfoot were difficult yet the quality of bowls played was exceptional and the tournament was played in good spirit. Eight teams went through to Sunday morning to play the quarterfinals – unfortunately, no Dundee sides made it through to the final eight. Congratulations to Phillip Scheepers and Cornell van Wyk from Vryheid, zone mixed pairs champions, the runners-up being Trevor Smale and Nola Dreyer from Newcastle.
FedAuto Bowls Business League
Rounds five and six of the FedAuto Bowls Business League was played this last Thursday evening. Conditions were perfect once again however the Ford Mustang that FedAuto had on display caused quite a stir. On the green, Sarel Cilliers and Harcourts made sure of a spot in the top four, however, Langfontein remains the team to beat. The leaderboard as follows: Langfontein 10 + 39; Harcourts 9 + 12; Sarel Cilliers 8 + 20; No Name Brand 8 +16.
The club will be selling food again on Thursday evening, however braai fires will be lit for those wanting to braai. The club looks forward to hosting everyone again.
