Bitter rivals on the pitch in Ladysmith
This Saturday will be the IC Asmal T20 match between Callies and DC at Settlers Park
There were three matches played last weekend in the lucrative IC Asmal T20 challenge, where the once mighty Wanderers took on Kings XI on Saturday afternoon.
The Sunday clashes were between Callies and K&L African United in the morning and DC coming up against Kings XI.
Taking first strike, N Israel (33) and S Singh (31) got among the runs with the extras being a whopping 18 runs, giving them an advantage to take their tally to 99 runs all out.
Pick of the bowlers for Kings: S Ali 4-0-13-2 and Hansi 4-0-15-1.
Chasing 100 for victory, Kings were in trouble, losing wickets at random. At one stage, they were 67/5. However, the Wanderers bowlers failed to capitalise and take a stranglehold. The extras total of 29 helped Kings to seal victory.
Pick of the bowlers for Wanderers: R Hoosen 4-0-3-4 and A Kharva 4-0-8-1.
The morning game on Sunday was Callies against K&L African United, where the former lost the toss and was asked to bat, which proved to be an advantage to the fielding side.
The introduction of schoolboy prodigy Shaeen Hoosen (3-0-8-4) and Faraaz Khan (4-0-9-4) wreaked havoc, as the Callies batsmen succumbed to be bowled out for paltry 53 runs.
Needing just 54 runs for victory, K&L African United did not have it all their way, losing four wickets in their chase, with Shaun Fourie (18), A Ramdin (21*) and G Jaggiah (10) getting their team home, winning by six wickets.
Dylan Fischer (4-0-26-2) and Rocky Naidoo (3,3 -0-27-2) bowled in tandem to take the four wickets that fell.
DN DOMUN MEMORIAL 30 OVER TOURNAMENT:
The afternoon match was between bitter rivals Kings XI and DC United in a crunch encounter.
Batting first, Kings notched up a massive 176 in their 20 overs, with Shiraz (61) and Amer (29) getting among the runs.
Chasing 177 to win the match, DC United lost wickets at random, with Imraan Ali (36) the only batsman to score with the willow. DC United eventually lost the match by 84 runs.
This Saturday will be the IC Asmal T20 match between Callies and DC at Settlers Park (match start time is 2.30pm). The Ladysmith NDCU team will be playing away on Sunday against Newcastle.
