Golfers pays tribute to Stan who notches up 46 years

Forty golfers came out to support Stanley Naicker, who celebrated his 46th-year of service to the Dundee Golf Club.

Dundee Country Club’s most loyal employee, Stanley Naicker, celebrated his 46th-year service at the club by hosting a golf day on Saturday. Forty golfers came out to support this milestone and the current Club Captain, Barry Sandy, paid tribute to Stan for his dedication to the club and presented him with a shopping voucher on behalf of the past Club Captains.
The competition was an I.P.S. event, and it was none other than one of the lady golfers, Dolly Bradbury, who came out tops to win the day with 40 individual points. Pierre Booysen beat Jo Khumalo on a count on 39 points as they finished second and third respectively, and coming out of the woods after a long break from golf was KP Smith to finish fourth on 38 points.
There were a number of novelty prizes up for grabs with Willie Maritz claiming the men’s longest drive while Dolly Bradbury won the ladies prize. The prizes for nearest the pin on the short holes went to: Patrick Mbatha on No.4, Petros Mhlungu on No.8, Pierre Booysen on No.12 and Carel Vermuelen on the 16th hole.
Stan recalled that he was born in 1946 – hence him marking his 46 years at the Club – and previously worked at the Royal Hotel before being asked by late golf club member, Jimmy Adams and Mr Kaufermann, to join the Club as a barman. Since then Stan had done everything at the Club – from barman, greenkeeper, maintenance, caterer and everything in between.
This coming Sunday, Dundee C.C. will be hosting the N.KZN Men’s B league fixtures which will see our ‘B1’ team up against Ladysmith G.C. and the ‘B2’ team taking on Kilbarchan G.C.
Club fixtures for this week: Dave’s Wednesday Competition, Friday 10 holes Chicken Run and Saturday’s Club competition will be the Monthly Mug Medal for July.
