Handy tips for running the Comrades Marathon

If you are inspired to train and run the Comrades Marathon, here are top tips from Eric Walton who has run the Comrades 15 times

1. Comrades takes self-discipline.

2. Get the support of family.

3. Run with friends, preferably who have done Comrades.

4. Start eating healthy food.

5. Visit your doctor for a complete check-up.

6. First, do short runs, 3kms twice a week and 5kms or 8kms on Saturdays for two or three weeks.

7. Build up gradually until you’re confident to increase your mileage.

8. Do a few 10km races before moving on to 21km races.

9. Do a qualifying race early next year. Don’t leave it to April.
