Munir Muhammad dominates on the cricket pitch
All-rounder, Munir Muhammad shares what it was like being awarded Player of the Season
Give Munir Muhammad a bat, ball or a place on the field and be assured that this determined cricketer will give a stellar performance.

The 43-year-old, who plays for Farhaan Aluminium, is a classic all-rounder; a team player his mates have relied on to help secure victory after victory on the cricket pitch.
Mr Muhammad’s diversity in the game recently earned him the coveted Player of the Season at Umtshezi Cricket Association’s prize-giving. This is an award that is dear to his heart.
“It was a great feeling to be recognised for my cricket,” he said.
Cricket is a passion that Mr Muhammad developed while in his adolescence, growing up in Pakistan. He described the type of cricket he played in Pakistan as ‘street cricket’.
“We didn’t have too many rules or even a ground to play on, like we do here. Often we would play in the street,” he explained.
While in Pakistan, Mr Muhammad also played other sports like volleyball and hockey. When he relocated to South Africa in 2005 due to business opportunities, he was pleased to learn that cricket is alive and well in the small town of Estcourt.
“My friend, who was already living here, told me about the cricket association and soon I was selected to play. I previously played for Foodzone before joining Farhaan Aluminium. This is my third year with the team,” he said.
Being disciplined is one of the keys to Mr Muhammad’s cricket success and he stresses that cricketers must be punctual, and that practice and concentration are most important.
“The time you spend on the ground is very important. Therefore, when I am not practicing on the pitch, I play at home with my children,” added Mr Muhammad.
His children, Muhammad Bazil (8) and Fazina (5), both agree that they love playing cricket and hope to be as good as their dad is one day.
