Nearly 80 players flocked to the Dundee Golf Club on Saturday for the Northern KZN Girls Hockey Day and what a fun day it was. The girls and their helpers pulled out all the stops to ensure all the players had a day to remember with colourful watering holes, novelty competitions and a great atmosphere.
The eventual winners on 53 points were Riaan Kleynhans and Ewan Cheng of Newcastle. They were followed by Dundee’s Lionel Shawe and Carl Vermeullen on 49 points and third , Henk Booysens and partner, Abrie Pretorius on 48 points.
Abrie put in his best round of golf ever on Saturday! Billy Francis and Marc Bradbury were fourth on 46 points counted out from Clement Chawanda and Mandla Mthethwa.

Novelties were as follows: Men’s longest drive on no. 9, J du Preez and ladies on no. 10, M Vlok. Nearest to pin were as follows: Leeroy Abbett no’s 4 and 16, Mandla Mthethwa on no. 8, Tyrone Roux no. 12.Many thanks to all the sponsors and helped. The money raised will go towards funding the Northern KZN hockey ladies representing Northern Districts in the SA Country Districts tournament to be played in Waterkloof.
Dave’s competition, played on June 5 over 11 holes in the form of IPS, was won by Jo Khumalo on a good 27 points. Barto Pienaar (22 points) took Chicken Run honours on Friday played over 10 holes in the form of IPS.The Chicken Run, played on Friday, June 7, over 10 holes in the form of IPS was won by Barto Pienaar on 22 points.
On Saturday, June 15, the club competition will be played over 18 holes in the form IPS.
