Douglas leads his team in ‘old man’s marbles’
To encourage this development, inter-provincial teams have been selected for the under-15, under-19 and under-30 age categories, which makes it more appealing and attractive to the younger set.
It was a most pleasing turnout of both young and old for the Youth Day public holiday meat competition last Monday morning.
Proving that bowls is a sport for all ages, the winning team was skipped by young Douglas Steele, who was ably supported by his more senior team mates, Marius Bouwer, Gert Roos and Japie Dantuma.
Bowls South Africa is making a concerted effort to attract the younger generation to this fine game.

Schools have also been encouraged to award colours to their pupils, who have been selected to represent their bowling district.
Newcastle Bowling Club welcomes all interested (young and old) to try their hand at what is no longer ‘old man’s marbles’.
