Learners attack the king during chess tournament at Ladysmith library

Chess whizz kids from Ezakheni, Steadville, Ekuvukeni and Ladysmith settled down to skillfully manoeuvre their pieces around the board

A chess tournament was held at Ladysmith public library on Friday, June 21.

Facilitated by assistant librarian Nathi Mthembu, a total of 16 participants from different age groups got together to test out their checkmating abilities.

Young chess masters from Ezakheni, Steadville, Ekuvukeni and Ladysmith settled down to skillfully move their pieces around the board and carry out the perfect attack.

After a long day of many rounds being played, Mbuso Mncube emerged as the champion, followed by Melusi Mthombeni in second place and Mfundo Xaba in third.
