Newcastle fours settle for second best

Magriet Coetzee’s Klipbank team went into the last game unbeaten, and despite losing that game, had done enough to win the title (8 + 23), followed by Janet Hardcastle’s Empangeni team (6 + 17).
The men’s title was won by Theuns Fraser’s team from The Nest BC.
The team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament (10 + 43), having sent closest rivals in Newcastle’s John Douthwaite, Trevor Douthwaite, Tony de Pooter and Adrian van der Merwe into second place (8 + 31). On the local front, the Newcastle Bowling Club Novice Singles championships were played last weekend.
Players who have played for less than three years are eligible to enter. Young Denva Shaw (10) again showed his potential by winning his section, while the other section was won by new bowler, Hennie Marsburg (68).
An interesting tussle took place in the final, with Hennie eventually winning 21 – 13.
It was most pleasing to see six new players participate in this competition – well played, all!
