Sheryl and Des clinch bowls trophies
A total of 15 men and 6 women took to the greens on Saturday morning, to battle for the coveted titles.
The Bowls Club has a new ladies singles champion!
The club hosted its annual Open Singles Tournament this weekend and what a brilliant bowling weekend it was. A total of 15 men and 6 women took to the greens on Saturday morning.
After an engrossing day’s play, it was Rita Meyer and Sheryl Hesom who played their way into the ladies’ final. In the men’s competition, it was Greg Conolly, Des Johnson, Jacques Bierbaum, Ian de Jager and Rudi Hashke who made it through to the playoffs, which took place on Sunday.
Special mention was made of Cronje Stadler, who participated in his first open singles competition and ended second in his section. The club hopes to see you on the greens more often, Cronje!
The Sunday playoffs saw Des Johnson through to the semi-finals, coming from behind to beat Ian. Next, Des and Greg, and Rudi and Jacques competed against each other for a place in the final, with Des and Rudi making it through.
The men’s and ladies’ finals were both tightly contested games, which kept the spectators very entertained. In the men’s competition, it was Des Johnson who reigned victorious, beating Rudi 21 to 13. In the ladies’ final, it was Sheryl Hesom who played absolutely brilliantly and made her last bowl count as Rita was lying game, to beat Rita 21 to 19 and win her maiden Ladies Open Singles Champion title.

Swing into Spring:
The club will be hosting a ‘Swing Into Spring’ dance on August 31 and all are welcome. The entrance fee is R50 per person.
There will be a cash bar at the venue and braai fires, so bring along your friends, family and picnic basket and get into the spring feeling.
